We offer a dedicated Dry Eye Clinic in Bromsgrove, offering advanced treatments with the same expert Optometrist at each appointment.

Dry Eye Symptoms

Dry eye is a complex condition influenced by a range of factors, including tear quality, salt balance, eyelid health, the shape of the eye’s surface, contact lens wear, certain medical conditions (like arthritis or rosacea), previous LASIK surgery, age, medications, and hormonal changes such as the menopause.
Common symptoms include:

  • Watery eyes
  • Red, sore or inflamed eyelids
  • Gritty, scratchy or sandy sensation
  • Itchy or irritable eyes
  • Blurred or fluctuating vision
  • Eyes that feel tired or heavy
  • Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD)
  • Blepharitis (inflammation at the base of the lashes)
  • Facial rosacea affecting the skin and eyes

At Eyecare we want to hear about your dry eye.

Taking a thorough history helps us identify when and how your dry eye started. It also helps us to reach a diagnosis.
We will ask you about the history of your dry eye and about the symptoms you have and how they have changed over time. We will also ask you what treatments you have tried before.
Some diseases and medicines can also affect your eyes so we will want to know what medications you take at present and about your general health.

Advanced treatments

We now offer advanced treatments including NuLids which is is a handheld device used to clean the eyelids and treat dry eye and blepharitis. It works by using a gentle, oscillating, soft tip to remove debris, bacteria, and scurf from the eyelid margins. This process helps to unclog the meibomian glands, which are responsible for producing the oily layer of tears, leading to improved tear production and reduced dry eye symptoms. The daily treatment is designed to be quick, taking about one minute for all four eyelids.
